An Army wife and mom, I'm running as the
Democratic candidate for Congress against Republican incumbent
John Carter in central Texas.
About two weeks ago, Carter told a local audience that Delay's departure as House Majority leader was a terrible blow to Texas. A terrible blow? Texas ranks last in just about every category: education, growth, home-ownership, but we do rank high in teen pregnancy and high school dropouts. Delay and Carter have obviously done a lot for Texas.
Delay's legal troubles are certainly a terrible blow for Carter.
Carter walked in and took over what was left of Democrat Chet Edwards' old congressional district after Delay carved it up.
Carter received $20,000 in donations from the PAC named in Delay's indictment. Carter refused to return the money - or donate it to a worthy non-profit.
Carter gave $5000 to Delay ethics defense fund.
Carter has voted with Delay 97% of the time.
What will Carter do now? It appears he'll continue to defend Tom Delay and keep the money. He'll certainly continue to do what he's told by the Republican machine.
With your help, I will keep challenging Carter to do the right thing: give back the money, develop a backbone, get a conscience. I will continue to champion the issues of soldiers, military families and veterans, not wrong-doers. My vote will not be for sale. With your help, I will unseat Carter.
